Rare and precious Sarira relic pearls of the Buddha from Wat Phratat Luang (Laos).
These mineral relic pearls are collected by the monks of Wat Phratat Luang by sorting through the sand of the Mekong River collected in special places known only to certain Venerables.
According to ancient texts, after the cremation of Buddha Shakyamuni, his relics were shared equally among seven Kings, but as he was leaving, one of the urns was accidentally overturned in the Mekong River and these relics are therefore considered to be "the share of the King of the Nagas". Over the centuries, the Buddha's relics multiplied and the King of the Nagas would scatter some each year to share with humans. The Venerables know where to look for them and patiently sort through large quantities of sand to sometimes find a pearl.
The majority of these pearls are orange in color, and sometimes, much more rarely, a white pearl is discovered.
The most beautiful ones (fine and translucent, see photo) are kept by the temples, and the more ordinary ones (tarnished, irregular) are distributed to the faithful in exchange for an offering.

These relics can be worn as pendants, or placed in a Buddha statue (or a Naga statue) to charge it.
