Thai amulets and sacred objects of the Lersi Hermits.
*
The tradition of Lersi hermits (Thai: Reusi ) dates back to a very distant past,
long before the birth of the historical Buddha, the parents of the Buddha
having in fact received a visit from one of these holy men
when he was just born!
*
The Lersi are traditionally represented as elderly men,
with long hair, a beard and dressed in a tiger skin.
We often also see them represented with long canes
decorated with fantastic animals and large-grained Malas .
*
We also sometimes see statues and amulets of Lersi with animal faces (Tiger, Lion, Monkey, but also cow and even Naga !)
*
Amulets representing Lersi
are mostly protections against Black Magic
but also good helpers in the practice of meditation.
