The Luang Phor Thongkham Buddha, also known as Phra Phuttha Maha Suwannapatimakon , is an exceptional statue made entirely of solid gold, now housed at Wat Traimit. Long concealed under a thick layer of plaster to protect it from looting, its true nature was only revealed in the mid-20th century when an accidental crack exposed the pure gold it contained.
This monumental statue, in the Sukhothai style, depicts the Buddha in a victory pose over Mara, embodying the triumph of the mind over illusions and obstacles. It is considered a supreme symbol of prosperity, accumulated merit, and karmic protection. Since its full unveiling and the construction of its royal pavilion in 2007, it has become one of the most revered Buddha images in Thailand.
