Ancient Gilded Phra Pidta and Phra Rahu Amulet – Northern Thailand
Beautiful ancient Thai amulet of the protective Buddha Phra Pidta, from northern Thailand. Its precise origin has unfortunately been lost to time: the temple and the master who made and consecrated this piece are no longer known.
The main face depicts Phra Pidta in his traditional pose, seated in meditation and covering his face with both hands. This very characteristic representation is traditionally associated with protection, the removal of negative influences, and the ability to guard against dangers and disturbances from the outside world.
The amulet features a beautiful old gilded finish, now uneven in places. This natural wear gives it a lot of character and testifies to its age and history. This is not a modern reproduction with an artificially perfect appearance, but an ancient piece that has clearly lived a life.
The reverse side is particularly interesting as it depicts Phra Rahu, a celestial deity immediately recognizable by his powerful appearance. In Thai esoteric tradition, Phra Rahu is associated with eclipses and the absorption of harmful influences. He is invoked as a powerful protective figure against difficult times, changes of fortune, and negative energies.
The association of Phra Pidta and Phra Rahu thus gives this ancient amulet an essentially protective symbolism: Phra Pidta symbolically closes the doors to external influences, while Phra Rahu absorbs and neutralizes negative forces.
